I mean, if they're going to do Senior pranks, at least they aren't endangering other students, destroying school property, or giving the school a bad name.
I understand that they need to be punished for planning and implementing a Senior walkout at 9:30am, laying down in the hallways and pretending to sleep. The other grades need to know that it's not allowed and thus it has consequences.
I understand that they need to be punished for running up to the roof, locking themselves into a room and playing ridiculously loud music. They need to understand that it's dangerous and someone could have been hurt. And the other grades need to know that it's not allowed and thus it has consequences.
I understand that they needed to be given suspensions for the rest of the day. Because of this suspension, many of them missed a Pre-Calculus test and therefore received a zero grade for it. That's almost punishment enough in and of itself.
I understand that they needed to be given suspensions for Sunday. Because instead of just walking out, disturbing their classes and fake sleeping in the hallway, they literally ran away from the principal and vice-principal and skipped an entire class period.
Okay, take away their special lunch time privileges, at least for a little while.
But to take away their Senior trip to Spain? This could create some serious backlash and erupt in mass rebellion among our Seniors.
Widespread apathy.
Chronic loss of morale.
More angst-ridden teenagers.
Significantly worse pranks.
It's not pulling the fire alarm.
It's not putting dead fish around the school.
It's not setting cockroaches free in the ceiling.
It's not spray painting a classroom.
And this we do to the group we lovingly call the "good" Seniors.
...I am going to hear a heck of a lot of complaining in my Studio Art class on Sunday morning.
Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.
Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.
