Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.

bump in the road

Back on July 13th, I had blood work done so that the Embassy of Kuwait will give me a working visa. They were supposed to test for HIV, Hep B and Hep C. My doctor checked off a bunch of other things, too, just to make sure that I was healthy.

Which I am! I received the results for most of the tests about a week later. But my doctor was on vacation, and they didn't have the information from Public Health (the HIV test). I didn't see the Hep C test on the pages that they gave me, so I assumed that it was sent away as well.

Well, wasn't I just pleased to find out that no one actually tested me for Hep C! Just after I got home from Cobourg, the receptionist called me and told me to come right back in. She gave me a form and sent me straight away to the blood letting clinic to get the test for Hep C. When I got there, the lady at the desk didn't even look at me. "Take a number, sit down and make sure all your information is correct and we'll call on you in a minute."

Followed a short time later by a nurse who said, "We aren't taking any more patients today."

So, trying my darndest not the cry, I explained my position and the nurse took my work (and the lady's beside me).

When the nurse called my name and sat me down, she stuck the needle in my arm...and nothing happened. "Hm," she said. She rooted around in there for a minute, pulling the needle back and forth and trying to find the vein. She apologized, but I told her that it didn't hurt (much!). So she pulled the needle out and tried the other arm. Success.

So that's what you get when you bother the clinic nurses at the end of their shift. Needles in both of your arms!
