Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.

i just got here and...

it turns out I'm staying for 2 years!
All the other new teachers knew this little detail...
and it seems that I forgot to read Condition 15.4 of my contract.

15.4 Any one who breaks her contract by not
returning to complete the second year of the contract will not receive her
indemnity payment and no air ticket home.

So this is interesting! Maybe I should have read the entire thing ;)
I thought I would just share that little bit of information.

In other news, yesterday's visit to Ikea was an experience. I managed to spend a little less than 17 KD (about $50CAD) but I don't really have a lot to show for it! A fitted sheet, a bunch of clothes hangers, a bedside light, a bathmat, a shower curtain (though I forgot to grab the rings - i must have put them down instead of into my cart), a pillow...the good thing is that we promised the teachers who have not yet arrived that we'll return to Ikea. Which means...more trips in the future!

I also learned that i have to be very careful when taking pictures. I can't take a picture if a woman with her head covering in the scene. It was in Burger King (Yeah, Burger King in Kuwait? It's the biggest and fanciest Burger King I've ever seen), I was going to take a group shot and one of the girls with me said, "I think the women around us just got really uncomfortable." So I didn't take the picture, and felt a quite vulnerable myself at that moment!

Learning experiences.

And, we went for a walk along the gulf last night. At one point, we saw a cat on the boardwalk, eating something that I hoped, hoped, HOPED was garbage. As we got closer, the cat ran away and we could see what it was.

Yep. That's a stingray. It was a good size, too, about half a metre long.

"As God as my witness, I thought stingrays could fly".

Bit of a butchered quote, usually involving thanksgiving fowl, but I can't see how else a stingray might end up on the boardwalk.

Well....so much for my reassurances at the airport "Look at all the teachers returning to Kuwait - it must be ok!" Apparently they READ their contract! But if you had known beforehand, you might never have gotten onto the plane! You'll be fine.
Love, Mom.

and so far, it is! the whole 2 days that i've spent in this place.... it's funny. when you get cold, you just go outside to warm up. it's weird, i just like it...

and apparently none of the other teachers are going home for christmas? i'm such a baby ;)
