Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.

backstreet, backstreet, alright!

Back in Kuwait!

On Wednesday, after a slightly tearful goodbye to my parents and my nephew Cole, I headed through security at Pearson and onto another adventuresome year (hopefully!) in Kuwait. Immediately I met up with 3 of the other teachers from my school and we managed to keep conversation going for a couple hours until our flight left for Frankfurt, around 6pm.

The first flight went really well. I watched a couple movies, read a little, but didn't sleep. At all. We landed in Frankfurt at 7:30am local time. So...no sleep all night. And a 9-hour layover ahead of us.

But that wasn't a problem, because we quickly found a whole room of loungers, in a nearly silent area, with our names written right on them! So we slept, had a drink (non-alcoholic...you crazies), read books...at about noon I met up with Jen who had just arrived on HER flight from Toronto.

It's a weird airport. You have to go through security, even if you're just going to a different part of the same terminal. They nearly confiscated my Nestea. I chugged it down. Then she read the back of my book (The Time Traveler's Wife). It's a great book. And a movie. I'm excited to see it.

We had lunch and wandered the airport, waiting for to give up our seats on our next flight. All in all, those 9 hours went a lot quicker than I had anticipated.

Alas, not only was our flight not overbooked, it was, in fact, UNDERbooked. So we begrudgedly made our way onto the plane and arrived in Kuwait a little after 10:30pm.

Kirsten's luggage never arrived.
It was 42°C when we exited the airport, at 11:30pm.
My apartment had a thick layer of dust on it...on everything...so much that you could do the slip and slide on the floor! You could see footprints!

Am I ever glad that I covered the couches with large sheets of plastic before we left!!

We finally went to bed at 2:30/3 am. I was up at 8:30 this morning, I had to DRAG myself out of bed...but my apartment is now (mostly) clean!
I went to church!
I got groceries!

All in all, on about 5.5 hours of sleep, it was a rather eventful day.

It had to be.

Otherwise I would fall asleep...

Wow, I didn't know you were going back!

Time Traveller's Wife--great book. I read it about four years ago, and wished I had reread it before seeing the movie. It was good, but of course not as good as the book.

Hope your new class/year are fantastic!

Remember when we couldn't see your plane, and jokingly said "it's on the other side of the airport where they park the broken-down planes" -- Cole was crying as you left because he was sad that you were leaving....and also because he "wanted to see the broken-down planes..."

Love, Mom.

haha!
Did you bring him to see the planes?
Remember he cried because he had the wrong donut, too...I have a feeling he was just having a bad day!
